14-Year-Old Female Produces Hit Beat for Hip Hop Artist Dad, Sivion
Ashtyn (aka Lucyclubhouse) recently teamed up with her brother Andreon Michael and father Rapzilla Sivion to produce ‘Flight Club’, a song which people are calling ‘a musical call to action’. It was released on 1st Feb 2019.
The track carries a nostalgic hip hop sound that reminds us of artists like 2Pac who is from an era that’s well before her years. She focuses on instruments that elevate the message of the song which is derived from Ephesians 6:12-13 reminding us that we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, authorities and powers of darkness. The verse then prompts us to put on the full armour of God so that when evil comes, we can stand our ground.
At the tender age of 6, Lucyclubhouse was doing something quite extraordinary; producing.
"I used to sneak my iPod to school and would make beats at recess,” the young phenom tells HipHopDX. “Around nine, I taught myself how to produce in a DAW, after getting a bootleg laptop. But, the clubhouse sound didn’t really come to life until the age of eleven, when I finally was given a copy of Ableton.”
Lucyclubhouse was exposed to music when her dad Sivion, a member of Christian Hiphop group Deepspace5 would take her with him to the studio when working. During an interview with HiphopDX, she revealed that “He would always let me hang with him in the studio while he worked. I remember pretending to be a DJ while I messed with all of the stuff on the mixer. He made me feel like I was actually doing something.“
Her mother, who’s not in the music scene but extremely supportive of her daughter had this to say: "As a mother, I am honoured to be a part of her journey. We always knew she had a God-given gift for music. We would like to see her on a platform that uses her gifts, personality, and influence to inspire other young creatives...Especially girls … [she can teach them] to be confident and go against the norm.”
Having won the Atlanta based Rapzilla Beat Battle in Atlanta 2018, and Battle Of The Beatmakers In Toronto later on that year, Lucyclubhouse has firmly placed herself on the ‘One to watch list’ as she continues to make a mark in a heavily male dominated part of the music industry.
Lucyclubhouse has been very vocal about her goal for creating music stating that she wants to influence and inspire her generation to boldly walk in their gifts, being confident in who God created them to be. She hopes to empower and inspire the youth.
Hard to believe she’s only 14 right! Well, looks like she has her priorities straight, and if she carries on like this, the sky is the limit for this young producer. Keep on the look out for her upcoming EP.
